New Life at Easter
For Kamran, Easter is the most important day of the year - his baptism birthday! Like many refugees, a number of different churches all played their part in God's plan for Kamran. Here is his story...
'Hello everyone, my name is Kamran*. I’m 31 years old and I come from Iran where I was born into a Shia Muslim family. In reality, I didn’t have faith in anyone or anything.
When I visited Turkey for the first time, I went along to a church with a friend of mine. For the first time I got to see how Christians worship and pray. I felt something there and I started crying.
Some time later, due to an unrelated problem, I was forced to leave Iran and come to England.
I was sent to a reception centre in Wakefield and I went with a friend to an old British church there. I didn’t understand much English, but the people were friendly, and I felt welcome. I also went along to an Iranian church a couple of times, where we were able to worship God in my language.
When I got moved to Derby, I was quite depressed until I met another Iranian who invited me to church. It was a large church and I found the people warm and friendly. Lots of people were there from other countries and I soon made friends. I began to discover my heavenly Father through Jesus, who took hold of my hand and brought me to his house.
I asked my heavenly Father to show himself to me and Jesus came to me in dreams three times – in one he was baptising me. Once I was ready, I had the privilege of getting baptised at Easter when we celebrate the resurrection. It was the best day of my life!'
Would you like to see more refugees, like Kamran, find new life in Jesus? Welcome Churches are building a Welcome Network of churches around the UK committed to welcoming refugees. This means that refugees can find a welcome in each new place they move to around the UK. A ready-made community of all ages, built on the love of Jesus, these local churches will help refugees find a place to belong and call home so that they can rebuild their lives again. In 2019, we need 500 people to give £20 a month to help us see no refugee alone. Could you join us?
